Inspired by the French film ‘Amelie’, ‘Caro Mortua’ (known as ‘dead flesh’ in Latin) takes the idea of the uncanny to the very roots. Flesh and skin, especially when peeling, are often related to death. In his essay Freud states that the feeling of uncanny is established from a fear of death. Both beautiful and unnerving Amy has used the texture and shape of human skin to produce a series of miniature sculptures protruding from a person to give a representation of trauma and a metaphorical landscape of war.

Amy used MDF boards and wooden battens to display her work professionally in the P Spowage Gallery in Nottingham from the 9th - 15th of February 2015.
